24:1 is correct ratio for that year of engine. Use TC-W3 oil.

So explain this to me in gallons - if I use 1.5 gallons of gas, how much oil should I use

1.5 gallons is 48oz. At 24:1 you add 2 oz of oil.

Some will run 24:1, but I actually prefere 16:1 in motors up to 10hp. 24:1 in 15hp or bigger. Many here run 24:1 without issues though.

I'm with Zeph, I go at 16:1. For my figurin' I divide oz by the ratio I am using and that tells me how many oz to use (128/16=8)(128/24=5.3) etc.

Uh-oh, recalculating..... 1.5 gallons is 192 oz. so about 8 oz of oil is needed - 1 cup

Agreed 8 ounces of oil for 1.5 gallons of gas for 24:1. If you want to run 16:1 you need to mix 12 ounces of oil to 1.5 gallons of gas.

To be very honest, the decals on that motor will say 16:1 (1/2 pint per gallon.) These motor are 100% friction and no needles at all. Oil is the cheapest thing you'll ever put in a motor. Why skimp on it?

It sucks that nymarine watermarked all their photos.

The motor says 1/3 pint for every gallon. If I go by that, I am at 8 ounces (7.95) per 1.5 gallons of gas. Thanks for all your help guys! I really appreciate it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

for a 1969 Evinrude Lightwin 4Hp would the correct fuel:eek:il Ratio be 50:1?
Yes that's the official line. 1964 and newer use 50:1.
However these mall motors do not have needle bearings throughout so if heavily used are better run with a bit more oil.

One day you people will discover litres and cc like the rest of the world use.......... Doesn't half make calculating fuel mixtures easy! :)
