Use photobucket for your pics. Way easier than dealing with uploading them to iboats.

Re: Glastron v153 with johnson 85

ezmobee i thought about that and thanks for the suggestion.

Willy,
I'm not sure i thought it turned pretty good. I will have to take it apart and hopefully i get good results. I'm trying to think of what or how i could of put it back together wrong:confused:. all it is, is the wheel, a nut, a big washer, and i think a gear or something. I have to buy a glastron manual....
I'm really hoping:rolleyes: its not the cable or helm because I'm imagining those or 2 expensive items?

I geuss this is what i would need not bad in price. I just would have to figure out what length i would need also to make sure it could go down the driver side of the boat? Could anyone help by sending me a link on how to choose the proper package?

Again just pricing things out incase i cannot figure out the exact problem

Wow that just made it simple for me thanks ezmobee

As for those pictures:
http://i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h401/Cowboyup94/PA040096.jpg This is with the pipe thing off. Do those 2 arm things that extract/retract come apart?
http://i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h401/Cowboyup94/PA040088.jpg this is with the pipe still on
http://i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h401/Cowboyup94/PA040084.jpg easily able to turn
http://i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h401/Cowboyup94/PA040083.jpg motor unbolted
http://i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h401/Cowboyup94/PA040082.jpg This of the toggle. after reading it I believe its just the lift toggle for full choke
http://i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h401/Cowboyup94/PA040080-Copy.jpg This is the solenoid thing that moves when we hit the toggle, must do something with the choke?

I looked at all your pictures & video so now I understand what you are seeing. Thanks for all that effort! Will try to clarify some things for you.

http://i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h401/Cowboyup94/PA040096.jpg This is with the pipe thing off. Do those 2 arm things that extract/retract come apart?

Not sure what "2 arm things" you are describing because I only see one telescopic ram which is the end of the cable that should extend and retract when the steering wheel is turned. The tip of the ram that bolts to the motor connection clevis may be removeable but I have never done it. Why are you trying to remove it if we are talking about the same thing? Until you disconnect the cable from the helm, you still do not know what is binding. Do that by loosening the attachment nut on the helm-end of the cable and then feed the cable out of the helm by turning the steering wheel while you pull on the cable.

You are correct that the toggle switch on the remote control unit is for full choke. It is a momentary switch so you have to hold it in the up position for choking action. You need to verify that the choke plates in both carburetors are fully closed when he switch is activated and fully open when the switch is released. There is linkage between the solenoid and the lower carb that must work freely for that to happen. Your manual will tell you how to make any needed adjustments.

Your boat has a steering cable clamp design that I have never seen before but functions the same as later versions. The two big hex nuts lock the support tube in place and provide for slight adjustments since your support tube is not all-thread like the link I posted. That transom clamp has some rust showing so make sure it is well lubed and moving freely in all directions. Finally, when you get the steering system sorted out, you should consider something like the item in the link below to help keep water out of the support tube in the future.

You are doing great so far and I know you will enjoy the end result. Everything about your boat is over 40 years old and it cannot be made like new overnight. Be patient and enjoy the process!

By two arm things i meant what you said "telescopic ram" and the reason why was since we were newbies we didnt know if there was grease in there that we should clean out. And that last post was by far the most informational so far. We appreciate everything you and everyone else has been doing for us. And yes i believe when we hit the button i recall telling dad that the linkages close up the carbs. but i will check again on that. In a way I am happy it doesnt have electric tilt because thats one less thing to go wrong but on the other hand its so convenient... also I looked at that link. thanks for the advice. Reminds me of a shock boot. I wonder if you could use a shock boot? Not sure when we will get to the boat next. we wanted to hit the helm last night but time and light was not on our side. This weekend were headed to the shore to get the last week of fishing in. Hopefully hit the perch and hammer the blues! :D

Back in the day, I used a Ford Escort rack & pinion steering boot that someone had listed in Trailer Boats Magazine. I'll look for that p/n.

You will be begging for PT&T after you after you manually tilt that beast up from inside the boat a few times. Some manufacturer made a "tilt assist" lever to help with that challenge. May not be available now. Good luck with the fishing!

Haha nah man its some moron and his dad working on a boat. haha hopefully you will atleast get a laugh out of all this "greenhorness" haha

Willy my man ya she is quite heavy Later on down the road i will look at a power tilt. Right now I am more concerned about getting the steering fixed! also on the list i want to replace the water pump or atleast the impeller. But i figure if we take off the lower unit miles well replace the whole part and know were safe. So if we can get all this done and be ready for next year me and dad will be extremely happy :) Also few adjustments here and there 4 new spark plugs... little stuffs.

I could not find that Ford part number but did find all the Teleflex Installation Instructions from when I upgraded the steering system on my V-153 to the mechanical push/pull type. Was unable to attach it here after I scanned it. I think you might find it helpful with debugging your system. If you are interested in getting fourteen pages of info on this subject, send me a Private Message with your email address and I will reply with the info attached.

EDIT: Here's a link to a thread in the FAQ's that covers a steering system installation except the motor has a tilt tube. Lot's of pictures!

Today dad came up with a good question. Since we will have to keep this boat outside over winter (to many toys in garage) How do you keep the ants/mice out? Dad thought moth balls outside and underneath the boat?

Also this question occured to me today... I want to check the compression on each cylinder. How do I do this? Also Making a christmas list do you think it is necessary to change the thermostat?

Re: Glastron v153 with johnson 85

with nothing else to do today because of the rain i pretty much became a complete forum addict and left jeep forum completely.. Well also today searching around for this and that I'm scared our water pump isn't good. If the boat was pissing that steady **** type stream does that mean the water pump is working? I really don't want to blow this motor up...
