ThanK You in advance for this great forum & all the outboard savy contributors

I was about to run through the Reeves Link & Sync procedure & set the spark tester for 7/16" (motor has been bogging under load)

Decided to check spark on each cyl, and guess I am not getting any spark on number 3.

 So is there other checks I need to make before replacing the coil?

This motor is a 1977 75hp Model 75743s

You might want to try switching that coil with one of the other ones on the motor and see if the no spark problem follows the coil. I would mark the coils as it is easy to get them mixed up as you troubleshoot the problem.

Switch, temporarily, the orange leads that go from the powerpack to the coil so that whatever orange lead was firing #1 or #2 coil now fires #3 coil.

If #3 coil now fires (has spark), then obviously the coil is okay. Be sure to switch those orange wires back where they belong.

Thank You Joe, you saved me a needless part purchase

I switched the orange leads #2 coil to position #3 and vice versa on the power pack and now the #3 coil fires and #2 coil does not.

I guess this means I need a new power pack?

More costly than a new coil (figures my luck)

That normally does indicate a failed powerpack.
