Hi there! New here, I just inherited a powerboat and I would like to get it up and running, only I don't know the first thing about boat motors. I have a Johnson motor, 100 hp, and the serial #G6006. Model# is 100ESL71C. Does that mean it is from 1971? Also, does anyone know if this is a 2 stroke or 4 stroke engine?

Also, any recommendations you can make of what I should do before trying it on the water would be much appreciated. It has been sitting unused for approximately 8-10 years.

Thanks a bundle.

The model number is the one to use to get year, etc. There are some dating guides in the FAQ - http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=224805. Yes, it is a 1971.

Definitely a 2 stroke and the fuel-oil mixture would be 50:1 - 1 pint of TCW3 oil in 6 gallons of gasoline.

If you're interested in getting an original owner's manual or full fledged shop manual for that engine, you can get them at http://www.outboardbooks.com/ (ken cook company)

There's a FAQ on this very subject! http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=158086 .. but if you have more questions post them - I've found that sometimes the FAQs assume more knowledge than I have.

An RD-14 is a 1953 25 HP.
Next time, please start a new thread, rather than dredging up an old one.
And welcome to iboats!

It is a 66 model.-------And a very good motor when it left the factory.-----May now require a complete inspection before it is ready for service.
