I have a feeling my power pack is shot. heres the situation. i had the boat running on the lake, motor started to loose RPM, and slowly came to a holt. noticed smoke under hood(never good). the rubber coating around some wires from the power pack had melted on the motor block. NO colored wires melted through, just the rubber protective coating.

I've got spark, fuel is good. Its acting like the kill switch is engaged. every now and then, while turning it over, it makes sorta a snort noise, as if it is realeasing backpressure. motor ran great until this.

also, its seems if i increase throttle, while trying to start motor, the motor speeds up, but just wont start.

anyone have any ideas of what to trouble shoot?
i have a selco manual, rading through it every chance i get.
anyway to test power pack or by pass kill switch? just to confirm its the switch.

any help is appreciated.

63/72 is probably too low for that motor. I'd be surprised if it ran at all. It's possible that it overheated, caused the smoke, and scored the cylinder walls . That would also explain the low compression.
