Oil Fuel mixture on 1984 Johnson 90 HP

I have a 1984 Johnson, 90HP that I have just purchased. I need to know what the Oil mixture is. It does have an oil port for a VRO Tank (I think this is what the tank is called) but I have read that the reliability isn't very good on the tanks. This is the first motor that I have owned that has an option for a oil reserve tank. Please tell me if the information that I have read is true or not and also what the fuel to oil ratio is. The VRO in 84 wasnt the most reliable. They upgraded it in 85 or 86. Mine crapped out numerous years ago and I removed it and now pre-mix. 50:1 is the ratio. 1 pint of oil to 6 gal of gas I believe.
