1983 15 hp Johnson clunked, overheated, and won't start.

Had been running and idling perfectly for 20 minutes. Went clunk, overheated, and will not start.

Compression is 60 psi in both cylinders. (My 1st time - directions said to disconnect the coil - I did not do that?)

Could be original water pump pooped out?

Fact ----Outboard motor like that just needs a new impeller about every 5 years.------There is no overheat or shutdown feature on them.----They will run and go ---BOOM---- as you found out.------Remove cylinder head to inspect cylinder walls.
