need help with motor

i was trolling all day and when we were going back to camp i give full throttle to get back on the other side of the lake and then the motor made a grinding sound and then stopped running. tried starting and wouldn't start can someone give me a idea what it might be . I'm new to this i don't no what to look for and the boat mechanics are tied up for 3 weeks . i want to get back on the water so.
my motor is a 1986 johnson 15 hp
please any suggestions

sorry i did'nt respond sooner i have'nt check yet had to work late. and i need to find someone with compression tester

Gas and oil mixed at 50:1 ?----Water pump impeller replaced recently or never to your knowledge.----How did it run for you on the last fishing trip ?
