adding a starter to a 25hp Evinrude 1990

Having some problems. I Have a new starter a new battery, a new solinoid. finally got the flywheel and starter to match. 11 tooth starter 54 tooth flywheel. Will barely turn over.
Your ideas please.

Bad connection or bad ground.

How about cables being to long? about 8 ft

If thin gauge wire, may not carry enough amps to spin..

They are jumper cables. I am going to shorten them to about 4 feet

Less Resistence they get warm now
