As I continue to explore the "new" old motor I bought, I was checking the impellar and wasn't able to slip it off the driveshaft over the top, so I just pulled the drive shaft out and removed it from the bottom. I put everything back together and didn't notice anything wrong, but when researching replacing seals and whatnot I came across an instruction that says if you pull the driveshaft out, you have to disassemble the gear box and align the pinion with the shaft..etc. That true? I can turn the driveshaft with my hand and it grabs gears and spins the prop forward and reverse.

That is BS. No problem with pulling the shaft out. The BS story comes from the 3hp, where indeed you can't get it back in---unless you know how! Then still no problem.

I was nervous, but since everything went right back into place and felt connected, I thought (was hoping) maybe that step applied to something else. Thanks for the reply!
