I am working on a 1977 Johnson 25 for someone. I did carb rebuild and put a new impeller on it. It runs good and is spraying water out of the two holes on the exhaust housing but not the pee hole on the bottom of the cowling. Im not sure if it is getting adequate water and cooling properly. I took a laser thermometer and read temps while it was running. Some places got up to around 240 and I cut it off. Anyone know what temp these engines should run at and how to fix it? Thanks

240 is too hot. The pee hole is the first place the water "sees" as it enters the powerhead, so no flow there says the water isn't getting that far (assuming the pee hole isn't plugged).

Has the motor previously been overheated? My guess is the rubber grommet at the top end of the water tube is burned up and water is just slopping out the top of the tube instead of going on toward the powerhead.

Sorry if it is a bad guess.
