Hi

a friend has just inherited a 25 etec engine that was rarely used and not running well.
After replacing the impeller and thermostat, servicing etc before even running it, he tested it on his 13ft dory. It didn’t go well. Seems to be limiting power and maybe only achieving half throttle or there abouts and assumed in safe or limp mode. It’s not any quicker than the 9.9 engine that was previously on the boat.

Its not prop related or that. Just down on power. Not missing or damaged and has good compression.

Being unfamikiar with these engines, is there any usual suspects or causes of this ? I’ve read a little online about others with the same problem and bad impellers and overheating seem to be an issue. We don’t think it is overheating and has had new pump and Tstat and pumping water. Also the info I’ve read seems like the engine will run ok then go into limp mode, this being the case. This doesn’t happen. It’s just down on power always.

Any help appreciated.

Thinking that might be the solution. Just trying to avoid it if not nesessary. We are both pretty handy mechanically, but you’re right. It may require a dealer reset.

Thanks.

if the 25 is anything the 75 the EMM brain controls all functions and you will need a BRP brain surgeon

it can be heat, oil ignition related… anything the EMM doesn't like with either shut down the motor or put in SAFE mode
not limp mode :crutch:

your BRP dealer can read the EMM fault codes which hopefully will tell him...and you what is wrong with it
