Just in case you're not familiar with the term..... Jasper isn't describing any ole tiny tach..... "Tiny Tach" is the name of it.

I bought one of these: Neiko 20713A Digital Tachometer. Non contact Laser Photo.. Seems to work well on just about anything that spins! (Used it to check the boat tach readings.)

I looked at a couple of tiny tachs on line and they say that they have an internal battery that only lasts two years and can't be replaced??? Is this correct?

I bought a Chinese cheapo tiny-type tach 3 yrs ago with internal battery for $10 or so. Still working fine.

I see there are several different Tiny Tach models. Some models are "R" and some are "NR". is there a preferred one for outboards?

If I were buying one (I'm not), I would be seriously considering the non-contact laser-type. Matter of fact, on second thought, I may look into one for using on my machine tools.
