engine starts skipping and shuts down when it heats up 69 evinrude 25hp

It starts rite up and runs great for awhile till it heats up, will start skipping, then goes dead. it seams like it may be an electric part that over heats. any ideas or suggestions greatly appreciated. thanks guys

Check your spark when it quits. It should jump a 1/4" open air gap.

Common symptom of bad (cracked) coils.

Same motor, same issue. Turned out one of the coils on mine had some insulation on one of the wires worn away. I missed it when I looked it over after I got it and paid for it shortly thereafter

Remove the coils..-----Look for a burn mark on the bottom.----The often burn through and short to the mag plate.

If mine, I would just replace the coils, points, condensers, and wires. Additionally, with a fresh/working impeller and t.stat, engine temp should be 130-140F. 160F would be overheating.
