Smoked Regulator - Now No Start

Don't know if I'm doing this right, I have a 88SPL and was hard to strart but did and 8 miles off coast of Pacific City, the restifier smoked and melted, replace, still doe not start, any suggestions

timypete Moved this out of a 15 year old thread so yo get some response from the members that know.

All I can suggest is to check the fuse(s) under the cowl.

Corroded or loose battery cable connections can destroy the rectifier and can also prevent the starter from running. Remove and clean the connections shiny bright, don't just look at and wiggle them.

Does it turn over when you turn the key? Yes/no.
Does it have spark when turning over? Yes/no.

1989 Evenrude 88SPL Rectifier/Power Pack ???

Dory Fishing 8 mile off PC Oregon, noticed smoke fron under engine cover, rectifier melted, replaced rectifier, and no spark. what should be the next problem part, Just ordered a new 90 Graphite but would like to get the old one running for a spare or to see, any help would be appreciated, tim

while offshore of pacific city ore, noticed smoke from under cowling, fried the rectifier, towed 7 miles, replaced the rectifier and still no sprk, what's the next stop, Help Tim
