1979 Johnson 150 trim issues

1979 Johnson 150 trim motor spins strong but won’t move motor up or down. Jumping straight to battery, full of fluid, and even checked the manual release valve. When I jacked the manual release valve out it did bleed air and poor milky fluid. Hydro locked? Needs primed? Stumped here.

I would try:
1) loosen manual release
2) lift motor to top manually and set on trailer lock
3) remove fill plug from reservoir and fill to the top with ATF (I use a 50cc syringe with a short length of speedometer tubing)
4) when full, replace fill plug
5) try the pump again.
6) repeat, repeat, repeat

My arms are getting tired doing that all day, lol. Still no luck but I’ll keep trying...

Pull the tilt motor and check the coupler below it. Could be broke.
