Looking for a little help. I have a 2004 115hp 2 stroke outboard. Starts fine, will run fine at 6000rpm then suddenly goes into safe mode and can't get above 3000rpms.

After cooling down at about 2000rpm for 30-40 min it will let me get back on the throttle.

Pee stream is always solid, never intermittent even when it goes into SAFE mode. Recently replaced both thermostats hoping that was it...nope.

Any ideas what I could look at next?? Appreciate the help

If it goes into SLOW after overheating, rebuild water pump and test or replace thermostats.

Maybe, but it depends on the pressure of the cooling. My '98 Johnny 150 has 30+ PSI at cruise, when the waterpump is good, less when it is worn. The water pressure unseats the thermostats (against the spring) to allow extra cooling at high speed.

If your temp sensor is good, and the 'stats are new, the water pump is the next logical culprit.

The "pee" stream is a water pump indicator ...just lets ya know its pumping water and means nothing about engine cooling.
