Hi I have a 1987 Evinrude 40 HP outboard motor that I can not get to start. It turns overs but that's it. I put a new battery in it and a new ignition switch. I was going to check the oil but I don't know where I would check it at. Any help would be great thanks.

Hey there!! :welcome:
What's the model number?

There's a few things to check which the pro's can/will guide better, but first thing would be to get a factory service manual.. It outlines how to check and fix things..

You probably will want to run a compression check and a spark test, but first...
What's your starting procedure?

Also, pretty sure that's a 2 stroke (Model would tell if 4 stroke but doubt it..)
2 strokes don't have any place to check the oil like a car... Oil is mixed with the gas.. 50:1... (or oil is in reservoir if a VRO style)
DO NOT run a 2 stroke outboard on plain straight gas..
That will blow the engine in no time...
