2009/2010 Tohatsu 9.8 rough reverse shifting

Changed the water pump impellor, gaskets, and lower unit oil and ran the motor. Shifted the engine at idle to make sure that all was well. Now the shift lever clicks/grinds slightly when I put it in reverse. When changing The pump case gasket I toggled the Cam rod /clutch cam shift linkage assembly to get to the gasket. Did I mess something up? Any info would be appreciated.

Verify that the linkage is synchronized. Separate the shift coupler, place the LU in N, and the shift lever in N. The spring pin hole should line up pretty close. If not, something is probably bent.

Remember that you need to shift "briskly" to minimize any clutch chatter.
