First off let me say that I have been "lurking" on the forum for a few years now, and up till now I have been able to find all of my answers without posting, hence the reason I just registered. This forum is filled with info.

Now my question - I'm looking at purchasing a 1991 25 HP tohatsu. I have been looking for a 30hp outboard.
Can the 1991 tohatsu 25 (I think it would be an M25C2) be converted to the 30hp (M30A3) with just the carb restrictor plate removal, like the newer models?

Also - I have a newer (2002) 9.8 and it has been a great motor. The motor I am thinking about buying is about 100 miles away. Anything in particuliar with the older Tohatsu that I should look for that were problems areas?

Thanks for any help.

No/yes.

You have to replace the gasket that is on there now with a 30 hp gasket.

Nope

Would this same procedure work on a 2005 Nissan 2 cycle 25HP to convert it to a 30HP?
