It's a rebadged 8 HP Merc version, the issue is that when the OB is started at neutral the prop spins with thrust. If spinning prop by hand whith OB OFF and geared forward, there's a clak sound when turned left, locks when turned right.

At neutral prop locks somewhere, at reverse prop spins freely. Something must have gone bad inside gear case, wonder what ? this model does not have the simple shift rod lever / shift lever stopper mechanism found in same 8 HP Tohatsu versions.

Can gear FNR smoothly with OB ON-OFF with no issues at all...

In F with motor off, should ratchet one way only. Probably have the shift linkage out of adjustment. Possible a rod is bent.

The OB was working fine, the operator strongly denies having made a bad operation. Rods are straight, nothing bent.

This model has a parallel shift rod mechanism attached directlly to lower shift rod joint which is fixed, nothing to adjust. Seems the shift locks directly to gear case compared to the Tohatsu version which locks by means of a shift rod lever and stopper that works together with shift lever.

It must have a cam rod and cam, coupled to a shift rod... Unless the LU is an ancient Merc version with rotating shift. No stopper on the Tohatsu versions. You could have a cracked gear. Sounds like the LU is in N when the shifter is in R.

Yep, doesn't have 15-13-11 parts seen on schematic diagram. Probably is an old style lower leg old stock sold recently or Merc wants it that way not to be 100% compatible with Tohatsu 8 HP models. Will tear gear case to find out what really happened..
