Changed Impeller on Nissan 5HP NS5B and is not working

I figured that I should learn how to change the impeller. I did a search on i boats and found some helpful information. I ordered the part and replaced the impeller. The old one was all chewed up. I struggled to get the lower end into the right place but I finally did. I start the engine and I dont see any water coming out of the tube. I do feel air coming out but no water. I want to take the lower half off again and see if I can fix it. Any suggestions on what to look for or what I did wrong

First, never replace just the impeller; always do the complete wp kit. Pumps better and lasts longer. Few dollars more and same labor.

Next, you are not pumping; that "air" is exhaust. You may have dropped the impeller drive key.

Yep, impeller drive key is missing or a bad alignment between water pump's grommet and water tube ? A dry impeller along a internal dry liner will make assembly more difficult.
