I serched for this question and came up with nothing so I thought I'd ask. Top Speed (according to speedo) for my 85 Bayliner(19.5ft)w/ Force 125 Outboard is showing 35 MPH. This is at WOT with 2 adults in the boat, smooth water and trim correctly positioned. Is this correct? The reason I am asking is that I feel the boat should be faster so either my engine needs some work or the speedo is Kaput! but since I don't know what the correct speed range is I don't know where to start. Thank you in advance for any info./help.

That is close I would think for a 125 on that boat.

yeah...on my 86 trophy 18'center console with a 125 it would run between 35-40 mph, depending on the load.

84 18.5 foot bayliner bowrider with force 125... 36 MPH on calm water 2 adults and equimpment. 15 pitch prop. I just got a working tach and it shows 4800 RPM WOT. I know the linkage is off on the carbs so once I adjust, I hope it will creep up near 40 mph.

A foot longer, very similar boat I think you're very close.

Re: force 125 top speed?

Thanks All!!!!
Based on your replies, I think the engine is running pretty good. I cleaned out the "tubes" for the speedo it changed top speed about 2 MPH. I figure it probably a little off either way. My tach though is surely out of whack. WOT shows 6K (pegged basically) but temp guage is normal and working properly. Don't know the prop size, it is the original that came with the engine so whatever that is... Thanks again all.

Re: force 125 top speed?

racer 15,

not sure of the prop size. Its a three blade, I assume that it is aluminum because it is painted black. Looks to be about 15" in diameter, but I have not measured it yet. I planned on a new prop during this offseason as this one looks kinda beat up, figured it would be good to have a spare. Since I have only had the boat in water since Apr this year I am still trying to figure everything out. I have been reading about max RPM at WOT and I am hoping my tach is off and I am not overrevving the engine, since I am not much of a mechanic I assumed the tach is bad and the engine is only going to push the boat at 34-37 MPH.

Re: force 125 top speed?

I have that engine on a 19' Spectrum (aluminum Bayliner) and according to my Eagle 128 I can get 36 to 39 MPH with 2 people and minimum gear. I am running a brand new 17 pitch prop. I don't have a tach but the Marina where I take it said the 17 pitch was just right for RPMs. Hope that helps. I had a 90HP on it previous with a 15 pitch prop I could do 32 to 34 MPH so the extra 35HP didn't add as much as I thought it would.
