Gave a 9.6 Montgomery Wards to a friend and before he took it I put it in a barrel and ran it. Worked great. He took it home and the next day went and bought a tank, hose and the fittings. Filled with gas and the primer bulb won't pump up. He said he pumped about 30 times. What could've happened? Maybe the bulb is on backwards or the fitting on the motor?

All of the above , or bad fuel pump diaphragm, or needle valve in the carb is not closing.

Sounds like the bulb is on backwards. They have a check valve that only allows gas to flow one way.

if it ran well in the barrel and the only thing changed was tank/fuel line i would first suspect the new stuff
