1994 Force 40hp - Tilt and Trim leaking down

The tilt and trim on my 1994 Force 40hp motor (serial number 0E067660) is leaking down. If I bleed out the system, then I don't have any issue (motor will hold position and will not fall down). However, after a day on the lake, leak down will reappear. I think there's a leak in the seal of the cylinder because the pump works great and no fluid is leaking there. Is there a rebuild kit for the cylinder or do I have to replace it at the cost of $500 just for the part? Thanks for your input.

Did you check out the sticky at the top of the forum titled Chrysler/Force FAQ? There are 2 posts about the T&T system including testing and repair. Good info in there.

You can also do a forum search for T&T repair....Lots of posts with good info come up.

The repairs listed in the sticky's are for the older style
T@T pump.
Your pump is a Mercury / Force made pump.
Used some parts from both.
Finding parts is gonna be tough,

The o-ring needs replacing if it's leaking at the seal.
Find the size and look for the appropriate one.
Granger and other places(Harbor Freight) sell o-rings
HF has 3 different o-ring kits. Something from them
might have the right one???

Always fill the reservoire while down.

Thanks Jerry, especially for the sticky regarding T&T. I have a question for you if you don't mind. I do have a service manual but it's apparently not specific for my model so I am not sure how to safely replace the O-ring for the cylinder. Do you have a link for this replacement? I can follow the sticky to replace the O-rings for the valve body because the instructions were very clear. As soon as I can buy the brass cap and plug, my next step is to perform the leak down test to determine which component is failing.

One added note:
I have 5 different spanner wrenches and
none fit the Force.
I found the deck plate tool works really well
on Mercury cylinders.

I tell people that they can 'borrow" my tools on
one condition.
They leave a 100$ non refundable deposit or
let me do the work.

Another way to look at it.....what I saved by doing it myself paid for the tool, and I will have the CORRECT tool to do it the next time! :D
