I forgot to turn the water on testing my 1998 Force 90 outboard. A shrill alarm was set off in the throttle control assembly. And in a hurry I shut down the motor. What kind of damage, if any, might I have caused?
Thanks! All responses gratefully appreciated.

The alarm was probably an overheat alarm. You impeller is toast and the needs replacing and the rest of the water pump examined for damage.

Check/change the impeller.
You probably didn't run it long enough to damage the cylinders.

For sure change the impeller, the cylinders are most likely okay
You can do a compression test to verify

I suspect if you ran it long enough to sound the alarm you will need to replace the impeller and maybe the housing around it, but you will have to check. As I said its not a big or expensive deal and there are lots of kits ranging from just the impeller to everything including the housing.

and iboat sells them..
