hi, i have a mercury force 90 hp, i was told it is a 1991-1994 model. the serial number is washed off the transom and i can't seem to find the freeze plug which mercury told me would have a stamp. i also read that there might be a circular stamp on the powerhead but i couldn't find it either.

can someone recommend a repair manual?
previous owner tells me it need a starter. i can see the starter is not engaging when starting the engine. here is a picture of the stamp on the current starter. i'm not sure if parts are interchangeable through these years.

i also need a part number for the water pump.

i hear the solenoid but the starter is not moving. i'll throw a meter on there before i order though.

Thanks in advance!

Do you have a prestolite ignition (2 blue boxes) that will narrow down the years.
Starters are interchangeable through out those years
Try to jump the solenoid to see if the Starter work then? it may just need cleaning

as far as manuals...let figure out the exact year first

The date is on the starter.
It's a 95 thats when the starter was made.
It could be the OEM or been swapped over the years??
The foundry stamp is under the bottom carb or under the ignition components stbd.side top.
The Forces didn't have the silver plug.
So any starter that works for any Force should work.
1985-95
After 95 they went to an actual Mercury Starter.

Try taking It apart and see how bad?

The new replacements(unless you get OEM) are garbage.
Get a rebuild kit.
F15190 under 30$
They sell the kit here(I think)

The impeller part #s are
The part # MTFBWY posted are for the older models.
In 89 they went to a newer style with the stainless cup housing.

Here are some pictures of the motor. I think it was identified as 91-94 by the cowl.

temperature was up a bit today so I jumped the solenoid and it started turning so theres that. it didnt fire up cause it sat for a year so i'll probably have to pull off the carbs.

solenoid part #?

Yup the circle should have the year.
From the looks of the drive?? your motor is at least a 92.

A quick shot of starting fluid to see if it fires.
Only a little as it has no lubricating properties.

Manual Google: force outboard service manual 90hp.
A bunch shows up.
Get one that covers the 90-94
Clymer and Seloc are ok but they don't have the specifics needed.

That circle has the letters AN stamped in it. so not sure if thats a code or what. there is some stamping above the circle - looks upside down but as far as i can make out 3J0 - 818153Ci (not sure about the i)

Anyway I did pull off the carbs seals to the airbox need to be replaced, seals to the block look pretty new. carbs are tillotson made in ireland with a 9 stamped on the other side

thank you very very much, you guys are life savers!! i can see by the carbs i pulled today (wb109b top and wb108b 2 lower) that it must be serial number OE009500 through OE093699.

suggestions for getting it ready?
I will look for the service manual so i can get on top of required maintenance.

NOT necessary is yours between those serial numbers! (don't go by the carburetor #'s they got used in various years)
A good reference would be the fuel-pump & the ignition-system

Judging by the fuel-pump on yours; it should be 0E0000001- 0E065371

Make sure; that you're buying a REPAIR manual & not a service manual
Ebay might have some

BTW the gaskets between the "air-box" and the carburetors are not really important; the ones between the carbs & block ARE!

Any questions, we're here all week try the veal :drum:

Make sure you buy a repair/service manual and not a PARTS manual/catalog.....if you don't read the description thoroughly it is easy to get the wrong one. I have both....the parts manual comes in very handy when looking for parts on the internet. It also has exploded views of the different components that can help with assembly and disassembly.

When I mentioned "service" manual I meant the standard "how to maintain" manual
Thanks for the clarification

I did send him a link for the online Parts manual
