It is going to harm the lower unit if I leave a small nut into gear house

I made a mistake to put the wrong nut into lower unit house and how can I make it out?

Please more information about what model and which nut we are talking about.

If it is in the gear housing it will definitely harm the gear house, but more information please.

No problem unless it gets caught up in the gears and then it will pretty much tear the drive to pieces.
More than a little risk involved.
If you could count on it remaining on the bottom and out of the way OK, otherwise get it out

The oil moves as the gears and shafts turn.
No way, I'd leave a nut even a washer loose in there.
