I have a chance to purchase a 55 horsepower Chrysler Outboard 559hf equipped with the magnapower ignition system with coils and points.

Is this ignition better than my standard alternator type ignition system with points? Is it worth the time to buy it for the hotter ignition system?

If it's cheap enough?? BUY!!
Then keep for parts for your other motor or as a spare.
Just do a compression test.
With a good tester the compression should be even or close.
The results vary with different testers.

I've never been a fan of the Magna Power.
To me simple is way better.

I recently sold a 225 Mercury.
The guy shows up with a new HF tester.
He hooks it up and starts taking a reading.
#1 80# #2 80#
I stop them as the comp is supposed to be 150# on all.
I get my tester and let him use it.
#1 150# same on all the others.
The right tool makes a BIG difference.
