I have a 97 force 120 that shuts off when I put the throttle handle in idle. I can throttle up and start the motor but as soon as I put it in idle it shuts off like I turned the key. No sputter no jump just shuts off. It almost seems like an electrical issue but could also be a fuel issue.

Put it in idle? You mean put it in gear and it dies?

What RPM's when it runs in neutral?
Should be 1100-1200
800 when put in gear.
The idle is adjusted by a screw on the bottom of the towershaft.
Undo the nut and turn the screw in and then lock the nut down.

If the idles set right 1200
Then the gears might be binding and making it stall.

Fuel issue: not if it starts again.
Electrical issue: check for worn wires and bad connections on the trigger.

Agree, check your idle. Mine was the same way, ran fine once started and moving, but put it in idle at neutral and it conked out. I gently adjusted the idle screw all the way in, then backed out 1.5 full turns. It stays running at idle now.

Spoon, what motor?
The screw you adjusted? that sounds like the air/fuel mix and
'not the idle screw.
