Yes usually when water intrusion in a cylinder and the head gasket or exhaust gaskets are good, there is a crack in the water jacket.

I was restoring a 75Hp Chrysler which had #2 and 3 cylinder scored. Left the block to a machining shop and when they started to bore #3 cylinder we discovered a small small crack/hole in the wall to the water jacket.
It was small as a pinhead.

Yes a crack could be there??

Was working on a 4 cyl.80's 50hp Mercury.
The 2nd cyl. kept flooding with fuel.
At startup it ran good and then when warm it would flood and run bad.
I rebuilt the carbs 2-3X and the reeds checked OK.
Then dismantled the motor and found a hairline crack in the intake side.
No idea how it cracked unless it got too hot? maybe metal fatigue?

Says the waters on the top plug?
That sounds more like a gasket , maybe a cracked cyl. wall, warped head, not tuorqed correct,
The way the exhaust exits on that block: it all dumps into the exhaust chamber.
If the gasket or the baffle plate was bad it would probably get water in all the cyl. and a light brown goop would be coming from the snout on the bottom.

Is there an oil recirc system that brings stuff from bottom cylinder to the top.

.
The recirc system has all 3 cyl feeding back into the recirc and that would make all 3 get water.
No oil injection.

I was told by a boat mechanic that the 75 hp with the single carb was bad for a reed valve problems does that sound like what could be the problem in this case?

Reeds have nothing to do with water.
They're no place near the water passages.

The problem with a lot of the 3cyl. The top cyl. doesn't feed right.
They moved the carb up but still isn't the best system.
