I have a 97 force 75 hp that has good compression on all cylinders & seems to have good spark on all plugs but the top cylinder is not combusting & the plug is wet & looks like choc. Milk on the plug. Any ideas on what I can try to solve this?

The chocolate milk is water intrusion.
The head gasket is probably bad.
Remove the head and inspect the gasket.

Be REAL careful when removing the bolts, they might twist off:(
I use PB Blaster and a propane torch and a hammer.

The bolts that don't come easy.
Spray and heat then tap the head of the bolt, repeat.

Thanks for the reply. I will check that this week. Is there anything I should check or replace while I'm at it?

Should the compression be lower in the top cylinder than the other two? From what I'm getting from compression test is the bottom cylinder is a little less than the top two

How much difference?
You removing all the plugs to do the test?
1-5# is nothing to worry about

As long as they are close they should be ok.

The chocolate milk would be enough to make me pull the gasket.

One of the 88/85 twins developed a miss.
Did a compression test. All at 145#
Checked the plugs one had water droplets on the surface.
Pulled the head and there was a pinhole sized spot that water was coming through.
Still had compression but the gasket was bad.
Pull it.

What is the best thing to use to clean the head & piston. Is it normal for the piston to be very black. The bottom is the worst .

That actually looks normal.

To get rid of the excess carbon.
Power Tune by Mercury or Engine Tuner by OMC
Yamaha has it's own product, can't remember the name.
Some say Seafoam works on carbon removal NOT.

You can also do an old mechanics trick, once the motor's hot squirt water in the carb as it runs.
A little at a time.

The Power Tune, follow directions.
Then after that, motor still hot, remove the plugs, tilt motor up and squirt product in the cylinders
and let set for 2-3 days. Turning over every few hours.

This will remove a bunch of carbon.
It will be hard to start after the treatments. Clean the plugs and a quick shot of starting fluid.

225 inch pounds. or 18#

Tighten in 3 steps.
First at 14# then 16# then 18#
Google: Force outboard torque specs. A diagram opens.

This is the gasket & thermostat can I use a wire brush or sandpaper to clean the surfaces for the new gasket & do I need to use a sealant?
