Will a 1987 125 powerhead work on a 1994 120 HP. The 120 has the 2 piece style driveshaft, not the newer mercury style, so the splines in the crankshaft are the same, and I know the bolt pattern is the same. My only concern is the 1994 has a newer style mercury ignition and the 1987 had the prestolite ignition. Will the Mercury ignition bolt onto the 1987 powerhead? The block looks the same.

Thank you!

It should swap over, however, you need to verify that the 1994 flywheel will fit the 1987 crankshaft. It should be OK if the 1994 used the SwitchBox ignition system. You will also need to move the trigger mount from the 1994 to the 1987 motor in order to use the 1994 ignition system (stator and trigger) on the 1987 motor. The only other issue is the coil mounting plate. You may have to fabricate something to get the coil mounting plate from the 1994 to bolt to the 1987 block. They use different attachment points which may or may not match up.
