We have a 80 Seabird with newer VP tamd41p twin diesels. Just bought boat a week ago and working on it on the hard. Today a guy in the marina said the port engine started and ran last nite until he opened the fuel filter to let air in the system and stop it. He said it happened a couple other times when it was in the water. We turned off the battery and took off the battery ground to be sure it doesn't start tonite. The starboard starter was out until today and when we put it together the wire to the starter solenoid that activates the starter when you turn the key to start was hot and the engine started as soon as we turned the battery on. The alternator is froze up and the belt just squealed. After my son checked all the wiring and unplugged and plugged the connections it worked correctly. Do not know what changes and question the "Y" connector that connects the upper and lower helm to the engine. This is strange but since we have had problems with both engines it seems someone else may have had the same problem with their engine starting on it's own without anyone turning the key. Any suggestions?

We have replaced the "Y" connection from the flybridge and lower helm on the starboard engine and corrected the problem with that one. Replaced the ignition switch on the Port engine to correct that one. Also replaced the starter relays. starting good now.
