1973 Glassmaster rack steering system cable replacement

Hello all,

I need some help removing my rack steering cable. 47 years of wear caused my steeing cable to bust it's seams. I have removed the rack from under the helm and am trying to detach the cable from the outboard portion of the engine. I don't want to force anything as I don't want to search for replacements for this old beast. How do I detach the cable from the motor end? Pictures attached. I assume I unthread the very tip but thought I would ask first....
