Rotary steering cable fittings?

Hello all, and, thank you for entertaining my newbie question. I have in my possession a 11'9" steering cable that came out of my 1970 StarCraft Tr150. The cable has a spring loaded ball joint end and was set up mounted to the splash well of the boat. I have since picked up an outboard that will allow the cable to run through the tilt tube. The cable also does not have the threaded nut/spacer that threads onto the tilt tube.

My questions:

1.) Any way to get that fitting off the cable, and, am I right in thinking it was just pressed onto a regular Teleflex style cable?

2.) Does anyone make a universal or replacement spacer/nut for cables?

Thank you all again for your knowledge and replies.
