Can I use OMC/Evinrude Controls with Mercury outboard?

Just sold my 1995 Evinrude 88hp outboard and left the controls on my boat thinking I was buying another OMC motor. However, I have decided to go with a Mercury. Can I use OMC/Evinrude Controls with Mercury outboard? I found a wiring harness adapter online per the attached link. Is that all I need? Anyone ever done this?

I think you will find that the throttles work opposite on Mercury from Johnson/Evinrude. Mercury pushes the throttle closed.

Also, the shift cable throw may be different. I do not know that to be true, but it is likely.

Universal controls can be converted...hence the name.
