I am trying to remove this style control arm to check a throttle cable. I finally got the keeper bolt out of the bottom access hole after shifting forward just slightly but it still wont come off. It pulls out about 1/4 of an inch. It does not seem like you can pry the center button off of this style as suggested for newer models.

The plastic button is just a “push on” style. It pops off when working the handle off. If it just spins with your fingers then that is how it comes off, or it will unscrew. Usually a thin pry bar will pry it off. Those style of controls never wear out, the only thing that happens is the splines on the handle wear if the set screw is not tight enough. The original grease makes them a little stiff. I have taken them apart in the past, cleaned them with disc brake cleaner then re-greased the moving parts.

Thank you Kenny, it does indeed pry off with enough force and thin pry bar. Since you have seen the inside I might send you a pm with one additional question.
