Ok so on my 92 stratos has a 1992 90 hp evinrude. I swapped on a 1990 150 hp evinrude. My boat only has one steering cable on it and the new motor has 2 slots for cables. The boat I pulled the motor from (85 sea ark) has 2 cables for steering. Do I need to have 2 cables for this 150 or is it just a different steering system between the 2 boats? As of now. I have my single cable ran to the outer steering bracket on motor and have it all hooked up. I am still green on boats but I am learning quick. Thank you for any advice/input.

Ok, so I might have found an answer. I need to step up my boat to dual cables because of the 150. I found out that it is recommended anything over 115 hp should have dual cables. Sound correct?

There are plenty of boats with 150HP motors and single steering cables. I have two boats with 150HP motors and single cables. I never had an issue. They work just fine.

While two cables offer some redundancy, it still comes down to a single link to the engine. Most Single cable systems I've seen are rated for 150hp. Our 1965 Evinrude Sweet 16 was rated for 140 HP and it came from the Factory with the Cable and Pulley system. Never gave us any problems
