I been debating which is a better way to go, I have a 20' Searay w a 351 ford engine, would a trolling plate mounted to the I/O be a good option or a electric trolling motor (55lbs of thrust).........my old boat can go slow enough but this one needs help........welcome comments

I would much rather have a trolling motor, doesn't use up gas and would be there to bring your *** back when the 351 doesn't want to. :) My boat is setup for speed and I don't fish, but I am going to get a used trolling motor before the next boating season starts just for backup.

I have a Happy Troller troll plate. I use it w/a 85 Hp Johnson I can get my boat down to 1.2 mph. They work well. It works like a charm. Whether it will work for what you want it's up to you. I can run 4 hours on 6 gallons of gas at that speed. With out the plate I could only get the boat down to 3.5 mph.
