Just bought a 26 foot thompson boat and was wondering what size trolling motor i should get, how many LBS do i need, can i go electric? would 50lbs be sufficient,

the Lake i fish in usually 0-1 foot waves, and sometimes 1-2 feet.

so could i get away with 50lbs electric? or cause the size of my boat i should get gas?

smooth22,

You'll be asking too much from an electric on that size boat. Even if it were dead calm, a 75 pound thrust (24 volt) would have a hard time.

If you are trolling, you need a gas kicker. I'd say, 8 hp-minimum.

I agree with djohns.....

If your 26' boat is going into a wind, an electric trolling motor is not gonna turn it....I use a 8hp kicker sometimes for trolling offshore(just to offload the big engine) and on a windy day boat control is difficult -- with an electric, it would be impossible.....
