Hi I'm just new to this forum and I'm new to electric motors. I,m trying to purchase a little electric trolling motor. The guy has a "Motorguide" 36 pound thrust motor. Its two years old. I dont know anything about these motors so whats a good moter to start with.
I'm using this on a small 11 foot home built boat. Is this enough power. Is the "Motorguide" a good motor.

Thnaks for any help.

That should be enough for an 11 foot boat. You can always carry a second battery as a spare too.
And yes, MotorGuide is a good brand. Although I went for the Minn Kota myself.

The only thing to not buy in an electric is the 5 speed one's. You want a true variable speed on it so you can get the right trolling speed. I had a 30lb Minn Kota and move to a 46lb Motorguide for the variable speed. It goes both faster and slower then the 30lb did.

Aside from the throttle, the 30 lb did just fine at moving my 12 foot. 36 should be fine.
