Small gauge wire to battery post

I am installing a new fish-finder on my boat and have decided to attach power directly to the battery. My question is what is the best method to attach the wire to the battery post? The battery has a 5/16" threaded post but all ring terminals I can find for 16-18 ga. wire won't fit over the post. Any ring that seems like it might fit is for larger diameter wire.

Any suggestions for a safe/proper method to connect smaller wire to a battery?

Thanks!

Yep got the fuse, was figuring that was going to be the hard part. Guess I'll just have to keep looking.

Didn't see the link initially. Thank you for that!

You could overstrip the wire and roll it back on itself a few times then crimp it.

Should do it right and use the correct size crimp connector.

Mine has a larger gauge wire from the battery that runs up to the dash and then some sort of step-down crimp fitting which has some clear shrink-wrap plastic over it. It can be done, but I can't tell you where to get that step down connector. Maybe Radio shack or iboats????

I posted links to the exact terminal. No step down needed.
