I purchased a new blue sea m-series dual battery switch. I marked all connections on the perko switch i removed. I am kinda stumped and will try to make sense of the question I am going to ask.

The #1 terminal should be for the starting battery
The #2 terminal should be for the deep cylce battery
common should be for any hot while ingnition is on

This is how much old switch was wired...
I am assuming the #2 terminal was wired to the starting battery
I am assuming the #1 terminal was wired to the deep cycle battery

I am curious if I take the starting battery and make it terminal #1
and take the wire on the deep cycle battery and make it terminal #2 would I be fine? What else should I trace?

Right now I have 3 wires going to common, 1 supposed to go to terminal #1 and 1 wire going to terminal #2.

I was starting to get really frustrated and had to walk away.

Re: Battery Switch Hookup

No problem, its way easy, your just making it complicated :)

One battery posative (doesn't matter which) goes to terminal one

The other (again doesn matter which) positive will go to terminal 2

Common will go to your ignition switch/accessories. You may have more than one wire going to the common terminal depending on how your boat is wired.

Any more question just ask. Hope that helps.

Re: Battery Switch Hookup

I agree
Normally the starting battery is on post one and the deep cycle house battery on post 2.
The starter and ignition go on the common.
Wired this way then the boat can start off either battery.
Then I wire everything required to run the boat to terminal 1.
All the high drain thing like trolling motors and big stereos go to post 2.
Last do not turn the switch thur off with the motor running as it can blow your alternator.
Also if the switch is not a make before break do not turn at all with the motor running.

Re: Battery Switch Hookup

Thanks guys,

I knew I was over thinking that is why I walked away and asked for assistance. I will run start battery to #1 terminal, house battery to #2 terminal. I still need to trace the other two wires that were on the common terminal. I believe they go to the radio and fishfinder. I can wire those two to either the common terminal or house right?

I will also make damn sure I have a ground from each battery!!!!

Yup either or. Personally I would go to the house load with those.

That way if you kill your house batts you can switch the batt switch to #2 and start the motor right up.

As far as your grounds, you can run a jumper fropm one negative to the other negative then back to your grounding block. Theres no need to run 2 ground cables to all your stuff. Even with the ground terminals daisy chained you will only be drawing of the battery that is selected.
