24 volt question

I am thinking about getting a 24 volt trolling motor. I have a few questions about a 24 volt system that will help me make up my mind.

1) Do both batteries have to be the same size? I have a larger deep cycle already. Can I buy a smaller one to pair with it?

2) Can I still run my radio and other electronics off of the 2 battery set up or will I fry something?

Thanks for the help

Re: 24 volt question

For the best life and performance, the batteries need to be the same size and and power rating. Group 27 batteries are usually the standard size for trolling motors. If you want more run time, you could go with a group 31 battery. It's a little bigger then the 27 but not much.

As far as running your radio off 24v, NO WAY!!! You will fry it big time. IN order to run the 12v items, it's best to use a voltage reducer that takes the voltage from 24v to 12v for the radio. You can run the radio off of one battery but it will cause you problems in regards to that battery running down sooner.
