I have a 3-wire tilt motor. Can I connect direct to battery just to test or do I need to connect through the solenoid/direct box? Blue wire to positive on battery for up and back wire to negative on battery just to test for example. Trying to check if I have bad connection in direct box or solenoid or if it's the motor itself. Note: it's been years since the till/trim as been tested.

Also I if I do need a new solenoid I am not sure what kind I need if anybody can help for 1978 Evinrude 115. I think I need a 12 volt but not sure how many terminals, amps, etc. I don't know much about this stuff but trying to learn.

If I do need a new solenoid for tilt/trim junction box it looks like I will need a 12V , 4 terminal. Looked at mine and on the side it does have SAZ-4201AL, 12V 40 etched on it. Found a new one but does not specify the amps just 12V but I guess this should work if I do indeed need a new one.
