I had a situation where the trim activated up and would not go off. Disconnected the battery and it 'reset'. I thought it may possibly be a relay. Someone mentioned it maybe the trim switch. How do you test the trim switch now that it's working properly?? By the way I have a 2007 Mercury 115 optimax.

I have had rain water driven into a toggle-type trim switch. The water completed the circuit, trimming the motor up. When it dried out, the switch was fine. Not sure how to test your switch.

I only had the issue once. If you have a recurring issue, you need to fix it somehow. Maybe some lite grease on the base of the toggle switch to keep the water out?

You could try leaving the motor in gear. That way the switch would be vertical, and less likely to accept water.
