Engine won't start from key

Sorry, but not a big boater, so don't know all the lingo. My boat used to start when I turned the key on the console. Doesn't do that anymore, but starts right up when you connect one of those starter buttons directly on the motor. Not sure what I need or where to find it. Motor is a 1999 Force 75hp.

Assuming you mean the key is turned to start but the motor does not crack (turn over)?

If this is the case, place one hand on the throttle and the other one on the key. Turn the key to start and hold there while moving the throttle a tad forwad and reverse.

Ayuh,..... Do what AD says to test the neutral safety switch,.......

Otherwise, with a test light, make sure you have voltage at the key switch's Batt terminal,.....
