MerCruiser 140. Recurring problem. New to me boat. All ignition parts except dizzy replaced before I got it. Motor will run well for hours at <3200 rpm but go over that and the spark breaks down in short order. Dead in the water. Check points gap, still good, no dwell reading. Remove cap, gap HT wire from coil to ground ~.035" and manually operate points. Weak, thin, orange spark. Grab a snack, wait a few minutes. She'll fire back up and run for hours <3200 rpm. Dwell, timing are still the same as at the beginning of outing. Dwell stays solid with rpm increase. No carbon tracking found in cap or coil.
Rinse, repeat.
Coil?
The coil is just a standard round can. It says "12v, does not require ballast resistor". The power to the coil is 12v.
