VHF Problem

My bew to me boat's VUF has an issu .
it will recv.....I csn get the weather channel but if I ask for a radio check i get no response and if I scan it doesn't stop at any channel .
Bad antenna?

Bad antenna or a bad/corroded antenna connector.

Agree with Dingbat. If the weather station is close enough you don't even need an antenna to pick it up.
Check the back of the radio at the PL connection for the radio, if it looks good, check your antenna. Does it look worn? Some antennas have connections at the base of it, others the cable is hard wired to the antenna that can go directly to your radio, or there might be other inline couplers that could be the problem.
You should check the entire cable run (as best as you can) to figure it out

Also, some of the connectors come apart/off to allow passage thru smaller holes Corrosion can get into the portion where the bare coax cable connects to the connector..
